Top: Kids_and_Teens: School_Time: Math

Sites listed here will be aimed at young people under the age of 18, and will not be primarily for teachers or parents.

Please make sure that your submission complies with the general Kids and Teens guidelines, or it will not be listed here.

Math (or mathematics) is the study of numbers, or variables representing numbers, and the way they can be used to solve everyday problems, and learn about the world around us.
Some applications of math are in the areas of money, physics, computer programming, fractal music and geometric art.

Algebra

All sites submitted to this category should be aimed at children and teenagers and should provide educational activities or tutorials to help them learn more about algebra and pre-algebra.
Commercial sites (such as those offering tutorial services or selling books), and sites primarily for parents and teachers will not be listed here.
Algebra is a branch of mathematics that uses letters or other symbols to represent unknown quantities, called variables. These variables and number values are combined to form equations.
The rules of these equations follow the same rules as arithmetic, such as the laws for addition and multiplication.

Arithmetic

This category lists pages and sites that deal with the basic mathematical operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. It includes games, tutorials, online drills, and printable worksheets.

Counting and Numbers

This category includes non-commercial, instructional sites designed to help elementary grade children learn to count and understand the meaning of numbers.
These pages must be written for children and not for teachers or parents.
Counting is the method of naming "whole" numbers, in order, from a smaller number to a larger one. It is an essential part of math to be able to know the number names and understand what they mean, similar to reciting the letters of the alphabet.

Numbers have four ways of being represented. For example the number 3 can be recognised as

Knowing how to read and understand what numbers mean helps with telling time, counting money, reading street signs or even helping set the table.

Formulas

Formulas are used in many subjects, to work out the answers to problems, or to find an unknown factor.

Graphing

Graphs can be used to solve problems or to illustrate relationships between variables.

History

Please include webpages that are suitable for K-12 students about the development of mathematics from early written times to about a generation ago (ie 25 years).

Pages that cover general history should be placed in the Kids_and_Teens/School_Time/Social_Studies/History.
Mathematics has been around since the development of written language and probably before that. The field of working with numbers and formulas first came from practical uses such as counting crops, measuring land, astronomical data for sailing, and trading in the market square.

The field of math, in its many forms, has developed in all parts of the world from the Mayans to the Mexican region to Africa and Europe and China. As more texts are found and translated, it will be very exciting to see what we will find.

Important developments in math includes counting, writing of numbers, calculating amounts, working with fractions, creating a number system, using variables, using graphs and applying these ideas to the real world.

Homework Help

Please submit sites that are intended to help children or teenagers complete math homework and problems. Sites selling a product or service, such as software, books or fee-based tutoring, will not be listed in Kids and Teens.

For websites that provide help in solving math problems.

Math for Fun

Math need not be a dull subject. It is used in all areas of life, and can be entertaining and good fun.

Mathematicians

This category lists pages and sites that tell about the lives and accomplishments of famous mathematicians throughout history.

Quizzes

Quizzes can be a way to practice math at home, or in your own time.

Roman Numerals

All sites must be useful and of interest to kids. Site must be appropriate for children under 18. Your site must focus on automatic Roman numeral converters.
